One assignment in watercolor class required us to “copy a famous work of art and add a cow or a cat.” I chose a painting by my favorite artist, Paul Klee, titled The Red Balloon (1922). I remembered he also had a painting of a cat called Cat and Bird (1929) so I added this cat to the balloon scene. The Cubist composition seems quite simple but using watercolor to recreate an oil painting was challenging.
