Living in Place is a graphite drawing of a collage made with photocopied drawings, photographs, and textures. The arrangement of the images suggest a domestic scene with a feeling of solitude, loss, and the passage of time.
It is a visual commentary on my experience during this past year. My home and family remain my constant while other people and places have changed or disappeared; and the sameness of each day has warped my sense of time and space.
The title is based on the concept of “walking in place” where you are taking steps but not actually moving forward. During the pandemic I have studied and created, I feel like I am moving forward but I'm not sure that I really have.
